Robbie Williams Netflix Documentary: A Human Design Review…
Chart credit: genetic matrix
I do love a good documentary, don’t you? I’m a Valleys, of course I love learning about people. The Valleys person loves to listen in on conversations, hear all about the stories and adventures and cultures around them. They really are invested in people in a completely different way to the hardscapes (caves, kitchens, markets). They’re here to nourish people, rather than ‘join in.’ And well, that’s my intention today, to nourish you with some reflections on the new Robbie Williams documentary, through the lens of Human Design. It’s FASCINATING.
So a little side note. I watched the whole documentary with Robbies chart infront of me or to hand. So, watching it I could have a look at what he might have been experiencing through this lens of Human Design. I hope you find it fascinating!
Through the documentary we see the main issues come through of:
Not fitting in with the band (Take That)
Hunger for power and power dynamic struggles
Addiction and substance abuse
Mental health problems
These are what I’m going to focus on…
Robbie’s Energy Type: Projector
I’d hazard a guess at most people assuming Robbie was a Manifesting Generator or Generator, with all the things he’s packed into life. Here’s the thing on energy types. Most of us live with a whole heap of conditioning, turning us temporarily from one type to another. When you’re living in an energy type that’s not yours, however, you tend to hit issues. Mental health problems, hormonal problems, burnout, physical illness. All of which Robbie Williams experienced in this documentary. Because… well, one reason, is because he’s actually an Emotional Projector.
It’s not suprising he’s a projector. When we initially come to Human Design, most people see Projectors as lazy (especially when they aren’t one!!). They see the undefined sacral as a weakness. It’s not. It’s a strength. Projectors have this depth to them that really draws you in. Other surprising Projectors are people like Barrack Obama and Mick Jagger, for example!
Now, what’s interesting about Robbie being a projector, is that he looked up to Gary Barlow, and wanted to be seen and heard above Gary (Take That lead). This dynamic is interesting. Gary is a Generator, with boundless energy and creativity coming from that defined sacral, and a defined G centre… he had a strong idea of who he was. Two things Robbie didn’t have on an energetic level that when he was younger, he felt he craved… Gary is also a 6 line… born to be a role model. With this dynamic, it’s likely Robbie would absolutely have felt ‘not good enough’ in comparison, instead of just different and unique. We saw this play out for sure in the early parts of the documentary.
With an emotional authority, there’s also the element here of this emotional wave. Now, once you know you have an emotional wave to work with, it makes life a lot easier. However, definitely in younger years, people tend to make rash decisions of their ‘highs’ or ‘lows’ instead of letting all the emotions leave and work out… Would all this drama from the documentary have ensued had he known how to work with this emotional authority earlier? Possibly not, but hindsight is a wonderful thing!
Finally, projectors strategy is ‘wait for an invitation.’ Now, what often comes with this, before you understand that you are a projector and not a Manifestor, for example, is a real annoyance and misunderstanding that you’re not being heard. That your voice isn’t carrying weight. That you’re ‘lost’ in the crowd. And in the early Take That days I think it’s FASCINATING that that’s exactly how Robbie said he felt. He felt like he wasn’t heard above Gary. That he wasn’t seen. And on a note of alignment, that’s most likely because he was in the wrong environment for him at that time. Projectors are heard when the people who are listening are the right people to hear their wisdom.
What then happened was Robbie went to promote a solo career actually not realising that with a split definition and no defined sacral he really could have done with some people around him to help him carry the load. And then the problems began…
Kali Godhead
Every person has an individual godhead assigned to their chart, working with their sun gate. Mine is Maat, the egyptian goddess of balance and fairness and justice, which I feel is just a thread that runs through my life. Robbies… is Kali. Of course it is. The Hindu deity of destruction and challenge and power.
In shadow, this energy looks like addiction and destruction. Burning bridges that don’t need to be burnt. Picking fights for the sake of picking fights. Complete and utter chaos for no reason other than ‘because I can.’
In its light, this looks like using your power to promote and provoke change, which he has certainly embraced more in his 40’s +, which makes sense as this is the time when really you should be transitioning out of mistakes of the past and comfort (south node), into your lessons of the future and direction (north node).
Side note: Robbie has just gone through his Chiron return this year, which is a time when your biggest wounds come to the surface to heal. Often referred to in our western society as a ‘midlife crisis’ - it’s actually a planetary return… Interesting that his documentary, talking about his biggest life issues, spoken through as a type of therapy, comes out at this time…
Shores Environment
Anyone notice… whenever he needed to get creative, he went to the coast.
Whenever he needed to take time out and escape… he went to the sea.
Whenever he wanted some mental silence, he went in the water.
His Shores environment NATURALLY draws him to open spaces, and to water.
The other really interesting thing I noticed was that, stadiums, especially places like Knebworth where he performed those infamous gigs, is such a Shores environment. That stage looking out over sweeping swatches of people into the sunset. Shores. With a Shores environment, he really was never meant to do small gigs in closed spaces, which was where he started and struggled. Coincidently, Gary Barlow is a Caves… so just consider how that’s played out for a second.
Totally Open Ego
I know I’ve spoken about this totally open ego before. ALL of the worlds famous dictators either have a completely open ego, like Robbie, or just one gate. Often, when people are power hungry, it’s coming from an undefined ego centre, compared to a defined ego centre. This is because, the energy is amplified here. So it goes way beyond a bit of healthy self competition, all the way to greed and power.
We see him as this entertainer and showman with an ego, but he actually doesn’t have one. He’s amplifying all of our ego energy to gain his, hence, on stage, he seems like a completely different person to when he’s chilling at home in LA. Genius.
What anyone with an open ego however needs to understand, is that the energy should be released. So use it in the moment, but don’t hold onto it.
Open Spleen
Fear lives in the spleen. It’s a survival centre. Truly basic, truly tribal. What I find intriguing with this open spleen is that, it often leaves people open to addiction. Why? Because they swing between not caring about their body, to over caring about what they put in their body. So you see this pendulum swing between drug and drink addiction, and eating disorders. Not caring vs caring too much and wanting to take back more control.
The key with the open spleen is awareness. How am I treating my body? Is it healthy, and for Robbie, how does it FEEL (emotional authority).
Open G Centre
I love this reflection. Gary Barlow has a defined G centre - he knows himself. There’s a stability in who he is, what he stands for, and the direction he’s going. Robbie however, open G centre, swept up in someone elses direction, not knowing who he was (with an age dynamic at play too), and what happened? He lost himself.
The key with this open G centre is to know you won’t necessarily have a direction. And that’s ok. You’re a chameleon, designed to fit in where-ever you end up. Beautiful!
Mental pressure from Undefined Crown
Finally, the last thing I really wanted to highlight was the undefined crown. The crown is a pressure centre, and when you have this undefined, there can often be an intense pressure to use your brain, use your mind, and think. It can also go the opposite way, and you can literally feel like you’ve ‘lost your mind’ at certain points, like it’s not there. I think what was super interesting in the documentary was watching Robbie talk about the intense mental pressure he had from the long stint performing, I think it was the European Tour, and by the middle of the tour, the pressure was far too much and he suffered, in his terms, a ‘breakdown.’
The key with the undefined crown is to allow space to be inspired, space to think… there’s no wonder he wanted to keep going back to his natural habitat of the Shore! Especially as most of those stadiums would have felt more Cave like…
Find that interesting? The thing with Human Design is that this is an experiment. HD is the experiment, and life is the playing field. So whilst it’s not a tool for prediction, we can get an incredible sense of a person and how we can play with life, whilst also watching it play out. It’s empowering, and a great tool to keep yourself present and aligned in actually what you enjoy in life. I love it!
